Nets interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo wanted to try and give 27 year old rookie Mirza Teletovic some extra floor time to hopefully showcase his shooting prowess. And so he chose the game vs the Pistons on Wednesday night to do this. (A game won by the Nets 93-90).
Coach proceeded to put Teletovic in the game around midway through the fourth quarter. Shortly thereafter, the Bosnian attemped a three-pointer that wasn’t even in the same zip code as the basket. Two more shots would follow, one worse than than the last. In all the 6′ 9″ 255 lb. forward missed on all three attempts in a span of just 40 seconds!
Carlesimo promptly replaced him with Greald Wallace after his third and final attempt and miss. “That has to be an NBA record!” the play by play man was heard blurting out after the last shot went ‘wide right’.
Teletovic takes about half his shots from beyond the arc and so far this season has a 35.6% shooting average from downtown. He does have one good game under his belt this season from back in January when he scored 10 points, had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and a block.
If he hopes to see more playing time the rest of the way and play more than his 8.1 MPG, Teletovic had better get himself an NBA approved GPS…
