Brandon Roy confirms his retirement from Basketball

The three time all-star and NBA Rookie of the Year in 2007, has announced his retirement from baskeball due to the three surgeries he’s had on his knees in the past 18 months. Roy starred in game 4 of the first round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks last season, but had made up his mind to call it a career prior to the start of the rescheduled 21011-2012 season. After the Maverick series was over Roy said, “This has just been a tough year, my most difficult as a Blazer.” “I tried to make the most of things. I can definitely say I honestly tried. I’ve given this team my best.” He had led the Blazers in scoring for three years, but his nagging knee injuries held him to 12.2 points in just 47 games last year.

Blazers coach Nate McMillan said earlier in the week that Roy could start for the Blazers this season, despite reports claiming the team planned to use an amnesty clause in the newly ratified collective bargaining agreement to waive the 27-year-old guard.

As someone that repeatedly had Roy on his fantasy teams as surely a lot of you did, he will be missed by us and countless others. His coach Nate McMillan said that …”he was part of bringing back winning basketball to Portland” Roy, just 27 years old, had career averages of 19 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

Broadcasters had nicknamed him “The Natural”. Fantasy owners just loved to own him. Basketball players and fans will surely miss him…
