Giants let the ‘Skins take ’em out of 1st place…
In our only loss last week, Christmas came early for the Washington Redskins as the N.Y. football Giants gave their opponents an early gift; an uncontested win for the 5-9 ‘Skins. No one on the Giants came to play, not even it’s MVP Eli Manning. It was the first time in his career that he went 0-6 to start a game. He finished with 0 touchdowns, three interceptions, and a QB rating of 45.5. They played poorly on defense as well and allowed the Redskins to force them into winning their last two games in order to make it to the post season- a feat that we don’t see happening this year, which would probably end Coach Coughlin’s eight year Giant head coaching stint.

Cowboys take care of business in Tampa Bay… The Dallas Cowboys did what they had to do to slide into first place in the NFC East; the spot vacated by the N.Y. Giants. Tony Romo had another great day completing just under 77% of his passes, throwing three touchdowns, and compiling a QB rating of 133.9. Their D sacked Buccaneer’s QB Josh Freeman three times and most impressively held Tampa Bay to just 58 total rushing yards. It was 28-0 at halftime as Dallas went on to coast to their eighth win while serving up the 10th loss for the Bucs.

Bengals beat the Rams by 7… Cincinnati stays in the playoff hunt at 8-6 after disposing of the 2-12 St. Louis Rams on the road. We said that Steven Jackson was the Rams’ only offensive threat and he was just that putting up 143 yards of total offense which amounted to almost half of his team’s output. He went scoreless however, which is why he doesn’t ever make for a top 10 RB in fantasy leagues. He’s rushed for just under 1,000 yards this year but has only 5 TD’s to show for it. Last year his numbers were 1266/6. Andy Dalton had an off day completing 57.7% of his passes but was bailed out by two rushing touchdowns; one by Cedric Benson and one by Bernard Scott.

Cardinals squeeze out a win over the Browns 20-17… Thanks to a 22 yard field goal in OT the Arizona Cardinals escaped defeat in Glendale, Az. and won their fourth game in a row against the 4-10 visiting Cleveland Browns. Larry Fitzgerald saw double coverage for most of the afternoon, catching just 3 passes for 65 yards. Andre Roberts and former Ravens TE Todd Heap saw more targets but it was Roberts who got the lone TD through the air. The Browns D played well sacking QB John Skelton 4 times along with one interception. With the win the Cards 7-7 stay alive for a shot at the post season.

Saints crush the Vikings 42-20… Even the return of Andre Peterson couldn’t help the Vikings who now have lost their last six games. He rushed for just 60 yards and didn’t score as the Saints, who have won their last six, took to the air against the 26th ranked team against the pass and blew away the Vikes by 24. With his performance, Brees reached two milestones; he went over 40,000 yards for his career and became the first QB to pass for over 350 yards seven times in a season. Amazing when you think of all the great QB’s to ever have played the game.
