FIVE PICKUPS-WEEK #6
1) TIM TEBOW-QB-Broncos-
Coach John Fox announced Tuesday that QB Tim Tebow will be the starting QB when the Broncos face off against the Miami Dolphins in week 7 (after their bye) at Miami. It was time that Kyle Orton be replaced given the team’s ineffectiveness coupled with the fan’s relentless outcries for #15 and what he accomplished over the last three weeks of the 2010 season. Plus he wasn’t too shabby last week filling in for Orton in the 3rd quarter last Sunday. If you need another QB and can stash Tebow, we recommend you do so, pronto!
2) DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY-WR-Raiders- There are more than a fair share of receivers on the Raiders: Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore, Louis Murphy, Chaz Schilens…but none have stepped it up over the past two weeks like DHB. His 7 catches for 99 yards and a touchdown was impressive enough, but the fact that Jason Campbell has given the 24 year old 19 looks over the last 2 games indicates to us that those two are on the same page together. Bey makes for an excellent WR3 and could jump to a WR2 if the rapport between him and Campbell continues to grow.
3) DOUG BALDWIN-WR-Seahawks- We’re not annointing Charlie Whitehurst or Tavaris Jackson as the next Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, but Baldwin, who was targeted nine times on Sunday vs the N.Y. Giants, caught eight of them good for 136 yards and a score. A WR3 or WR4 at best, he’s someone to consider if you’ve lost a reveiver or two during this week’s bye.
4) JACKIE BATTLE-RB-Chiefs- Battle is a ‘store & stash’ until week 7, after the Chief’s bye, and when they hook up against one of the Furnace’s darling teams so far this season, the Oakland Raiders. Their biggest issue is their lack of an effective run-defense. They give up over 5 yards per carry which will benefit Battle, now in his 6th season with the Chiefs. Filling in nicely for Jamaal Charles-out for the year on IR-Battle was a workhorse last week vs the hopeless Colts, rushing 19 times for 119 yards plus 2 receptions for 21. He deserves the start vs Oakland over the inept Dexter McCluster and aging Thomas Jones.
5) OAKLAND-DEF/BUFFALO-DEF- We like two teams that you could comfortably fill in for your Team Defense this week should your team be on a bye. The first are the Raiders who go up against a Cleveland Brown team ranked 21st in the league in total offense. They’ll take on the Browns at the Coliseum.
The second team are the 4-1 Bills who travel to E. Rutherford to face the turnover happy N.Y. Giants. Given Eli Manning’s propensity to throw picks (he had three on Sunday vs the Seahawks), coupled with the fact that he’s been sacked 14 times already this year and you have a good argument for picking up Buffalo. Oh, and the Bills also have 12 interceptions this year which lead the NFL…
Great post as always. Raider receivers are hard to judge so Heyward-Bey is somewhat of a crap shoot. I think Jackie Battle will get the bulk of the carries in KC as Thomas Jones seems old. Keep up the good work guys.

You could be right on DHB. Campbell has thrown his way more than the other receivers so the two of them, for the moment anyway, seem to be clicking.
Thanks for the comment Mat!

I hope so because I have ’em as well. We think that they should be up for this game just like last week as emotions will run high once again. (Owner Al Davis had just died the day before last week’s game). Now, this Sunday, there are ceremonies planned honoring Davis so expect another emotionally charged performance on both sides of the ball.
We agree with the case you presented regarding Robin Ventura’s signing with the Sox. He played here in New York and was always a class act.
Thanks for your comment Myles and good look with Da Raiders!
