Are Tim & Reggie Right For Your League?
TIM HIGHTOWER-RB-REDSKINS- He has been tearing it up in the pre-season. In the Redskins three games so far, the 2008 5th round pick has averaged 6.8 yds. per carry. He has 114 yards on 16 carries and a TD as well as 2 catches for 15. Hightower is just 25 years old and has played in all 48 games his first 3 seasons in the NFL- so we know he’s durable. Watch him here as he scampers 37 yards for a TD vs the Ravens.
With Ryan Torian recovering from a broken hand, and rookie Roy Helu on board, and knowing Shanahan, we could very well see a committe-like backfield. However, given Hightower’s work ethics this pre-season (he’s been staying up to 45 minutes after practices), and his performance so far, he’ll be the featured back you’ll want to grab after the 1st tier of backs have been scooped up. The Redskins who are debating which of their two competing QB’s will start, (between Rex Grossman & John Beck; neither fantasy studs..), make it likely that their running game will be a mainstay of their offense. Currently, Hightower is going 118.9 in Yahoo! ADP, way too late for his potential upside.
REGGIE BUSH-RB-DOLPHINS- The 5-year back out of USC is a real conundrum. Following his first year in the NFL in which he played all 16 games, he missed 20 games over the next 4 seasons! That Bush is injury prone is an understatement. The 2006 1st round draft pick, when healthy, can rack up those fantasy points with the best of them. Watch him tear it up in a pre-season game vs. the Panthers:
Part of his upside will come when Chad Henne connects on swing passes with him; when all other options have dissipated. Remember that Reggie averaged 80 catches in his first two seasons with the Saints and so all those in PPR leagues could find a true sleeper in Bush this year. Keep in mind he’s only 26 and once again, if healthy he could pay off big-time.
