From ‘Studs’ to ‘Duds’…part 2
6) Carl Crawford-OF-Red Sox- In the dictionary under the word Bust, you will probably find Crawford’s picture! His line; 49/8/40-.251 BA, and still in 97% of Yahoo! leagues! I’m sure when he was drafted in Fantasy leagues at the start of the season, his career .293 BA, & his 117 SB’s in the last 2 years were a factor. He not only has 17 so far, but he has been relegated to the 7th hole in the batting order! Not what the Red Sox had in mind when they paid him all that money…
7) Francisco Liriano-SP-Twins- Liriano, currently ranked 848 in Yahho! leagues, is another big disappointment. A 14 game winner a year ago with 200 K’s and a 3.62 ERA/1.26 WHIP, he has seen his ERA rise to just under 5 (at 4.85), while his WHIP is at 1.45. In just 23 starts this year, Liriano has walked more batters than in any year in his career!
8) Delmon Young-OF-Tigers- Young’s move from Minnesota to Detroit has helped his stats a little, but coming off a 77/21/112-.298 season last year, you would think he would be doing better than 29/6/38-.269. Still astounds me how almost half of Yahoo! leagues continue to roster this Dud…
9) Jonathan Sanchez-SP-Giants- 0Ranked at around 700 in Yahoo! leagues, this hard throwing left-hander has only 4 wins coming off his best season last year with 13W’s. In addition he had 200K’s an ERA at around 3, and a 1.23 WHIP. Compare that to his current #’s; 4-7 4.26/1.44, and you can understand why he’s a member of the bust club.
10) David Wright-3B-Mets- Wright has missed just about half of the season so while we won’t get completely down on him, he’s still classified as a Fantasy Bust. He’s batting a meager .255 while he sports a career BA of .301! Although his batting average has improved of late, Fantasy managers who drafted him early were anticipating at least 30 hrs.-since he’s hit that many in 3 of the last 4 seasons..
